2014 ‘The Voice’ contestant, singer Christina Grimmie, is dead.
The 22 year old died after she was shot outside a concert she performed in Orlando, Florida, on Friday.
The singer was accosted outside the concert by a fan, who shot her. She was rushed to a hospital in the area, but died of her wounds.
The shooter was tackled by Grimmie’s brother after he shot her, and in the ensuing scuffle, shot himself.
“Detectives were told the suspect, who is not being identified at this time, walked toward Christina and shot her.” Orlando police disclosed to the press.
“Christina’s brother immediately tackled the suspect stopping him from causing any more harm to Christina and her fans. During the struggle, the suspect shot himself. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The family confirmed the death in a statement.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord,” her publicist said in the statement.
“She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”
Christina Grimmie was a sensation when she contested on ‘The Voice’ two years ago, and went all the way to the final show, finishing third.
Grimmie was just 22. May she rest in peace.
