Sonko Reveals Next Step in Deputy Governor Hunt After Miguna Rejection

Governor Mike Sonko says he will nominate another candidate to the position of Nairobi Deputy Governor after the Nairobi County Assembly on Tuesday rejected Miguna Miguna’s nomination.

In a statement to newsrooms, Sonko said he has accepted the decision of the Nairobi County Assembly. The nomination was rejected on the basis that the firebrand politician holds dual citizenship.

“I hereby wish to accept the decision of the Nairobi County Assembly rejecting the nomination of Dr Miguna Miguna as Nairobi Deputy Governor on the basis that he is a dual citizen as provided for under Article 78 of the Constitution.”

Sonko said he would nominate another candidate after “due consultations.”

“I shall present another qualified nominee to the county assembly after due consultations to ensure Nairobi gets a befitting Deputy Governor to support in service delivery.”

He added: “I’m committed to respect the decisions of the Nairobi County Assembly without reservations because they represent the sovereignty and infallible will of the Great People of Nairobi County.”

The county boss added that his government remains committed to serving Nairobi residents as well as ensuring timely and efficient service delivery.

He cited the overhaul of the county roads and other infrastructure which were destroyed by the rains as key among his priorities.
